Rescue Me ID: 15-03-19-00203Hemi (male)

Bloodhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Aggressive

I have a 3 1/2 - 4 yr old AKC bloodhound named Hemi. To me, he is the sweetest, most loving dog. He is housebroken. I would love to keep him but in the last year or so has shown an increased aggression in his temperament. To the point that my kids choose to keep their distance from him. Over time, he has become more and more protective of his belongings, food, kennel and me, his owner. Here are the occurances to date: He gets jealous of attention given to our other dogs and on several occasions fought with the dog as a result. One time, to the point i needed to jump in and physically restrain him. He is protective of his food and ... (Read More)does not like being walked up upon or touched while eating. 3 - 4 times, individuals have walked up to him or touched him and he will turn with an angry growl. Once jumping on the person. No biting. But scary to the people. He will try to eat other dogs food after he finishes his (if there is still food from the others left). He will growl or fight with the dogs if they try to approach or reclaim. He barks at strangers approaching our property. I have had two instances of him biting. Each on the hand of people reaching over the fence to pet him. At first, he seems friendly and approachable but when the individuals reach over and place their hands over his head- he does not like that and has growled, barked, bitten. I now tell everyone to stay away from the fence - to DO NOT pet him. To leave him alone. He does not like being apprached by creeping up on him. My youngest wanted to pet and love on him but was nervous. I think Hemi senses that and growls. He has lunged but never bitten. These are the issues I know of with him. Perhaps these are all things that can be eliminated with family training? I just want anyone interested to be fully aware of his history. There are many positives to him as well. He LOVES to swim in our pool with me. Throw a ball in and he jumps/flies into the pool to get. it. He loves to play. Its so funny watching him grab sticks and toys and get our two corgies to chase him around the yard. Minus the aggressive instances, he always lets me love on him, belly rubs and petting behind the ears. He gives the best hugs ever! He literally raises up and puts his arms around by head to hug me. While petting him, he like to lift his paw up and place it on my leg or chest. I guess he's returning the favor? If any one is interested in Hemi, please contact me. I refuse to take him to a shelter or pawn him off to craigslist. I'll keep him until i can find someone who understands his temperament, past history and all the good and bad. I am not looking for anything in return other than a loving home for him. If you acknowledge and accept everything above and are willing to provide a loving home and obvious training for his aggressiveness then please contact me. thank you! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-18-00560Ella (female)

Bloodhound Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

For this Bloodhound gang, things were not working out so well. They'd been surrendered to Animal Control because their owner didn't want to deal with such big puppies, and it just so happened they lived in a city where there weren't many options for adoption. They were very close to knocking on death's door, but some volunteers stepped in and began contacting different rescues. Always a sucker for the hound faces, our staff offered to help out and give these cuties a place to go. Now that they're here we've had a chance to get to know them and we can't wait to find them the perfect homes! Ella may seem a little shy at first, but it doesn't ... (Read More)take her long to warm up and then it's all about play! She loves to run around and wrestle with her siblings. With her long legs and droopy ears you can see her flying like the wind. Ella is going to be a big dog when she grows up, so she'll need a family who has a little bit of room for her, but once you look in those puppy dog eyes there's no way you could say no. Ella is working on her house training and has come a long way from living in the backyard. She's crate trained and does great with everyone she meets, even the kitties! If Ella looks like your girl, fill out an application today! (Less)

Chase is such a sweet young boy! He's so shy at first, like a little kid hiding behind his mother's legs, but loves like there's no tomorrow once you've earned his trust. So happy-go-lucky he bounces around like a clumsy kid. Chase hasn't met a soul he didn't like yet does great with people of all sized as well as other dogs and cats. Chase is the dog that needs to be in your family photo!

PIease Read Before Adopting a Bloodhound in Texas
Bloodhound Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. Bloodhounds are extremely good natured dogs that are exceptionally patient and gentle with children. Bloodhounds love affection and attention. Bloodhounds have a stubborn streak and a mind of their own; they need firm training and discipline. Bloodhounds are friendly and devoted to their masters. Bloodhounds are prized for their ability to follow any scent; this makes them likely to wander off if not kept on a leash. Bloodhounds need daily exercise but are fairly laid back indoors and so do okay in an apartment as long as they have regular opportunities to be active and take walks.
